6 Things We Did in Bora Bora

This April, my husband and I went to Bora Bora for our delayed honeymoon. We spent 5 days and 4 nights on this small but gorgeous island. Every moment was amazing there, just like we had a big and sweet dream where we didn’t want to wake up. We were so sad on the last day because it’s time for us to come home (i.e. back to the “real” life). We can’t help thinking to go back to the heaven again even before we started packaging. WE WILL COME BACK, hopefully!

When looking at the photos we took, I thought I should write something about what we did there. Just wanted to share our experience as well as the beautiful photos we had hah! ;-)

1. 4WD tour

On the second day after we arrived, we booked 4WD tour of the “central island”, where the Mt Otekamu is. It was a great tour! The tour guide, David, drove a 4WD jeep and took us around the island. He introduced a lot of local history, culture, and brought us to a higher land where you can overlook the amazing blue water around the island. We dyed our own colorful cloth with local people, and tasted the local pie with red banana inside. It was also really fun to watch crabs climbing out from their underground holes for the leaves we threw to them, and, they can move very fast!

2. Matira Beach

In the afternoon, we went to Matira Beach, which is a famous public beach at the south of the island. The sands are so fine and soft there, with creamy white color. The water is so limpid, light, and blue. It is like a huge, edgeless swimming pool with salty and nature sea water. You could still see waves billowing quite a distance away, and then you would even more appreciate the peace and quietness here, with sunshine, breeze, and warm water.

3. Snorkeling

We took the snorkeling tour the next day. We were brought to several places for snorkeling and were able to see manta, eagle rays, reefs, clams, etc. It was so amazing swimming with mantas, and they are huge! Their speed looked very slow, but actually it was very hard to follow them for minutes. We had a lot of fun! 

4. Stand Paddling

On the fourth day, we decided to do stand paddling. We saw there’s a tiny little island with a small coconut tree, and we wanted to go there. It was the first time both my husband and I do stand paddling so we were very nervous. It was very smooth at the beginning. It didn’t take much time for us to arrive at the island. We were so happy and took a lot of pictures there. When we came back, we wanted to try a different route, and then we met a little bit challenge. We were pushed by the waves away from the beach where we came from, and couldn’t row towards it. At last, somebody rode a jet ski and pulled us back. It was memorable experience but we definitely won’t try that route next time lol.

5. Watching Sunset and Stars

We really love watching sunset wherever we go, and the sunset at Bora Bora was beautiful as expected. Especially, when we feel so relaxed there everything seems so perfect! We didn’t see sunset every day though as it was mostly cloudy when we were there. Fortunately we did see it for several days. And fortunately, we also had those starry nights. We saw stars hanging on the sky, we saw galaxy, and I even saw a meteor! It was gorgeous! They were so close, like thousands of tiny diamonds, sparkling on a dark cambered screen.

6. Exploring the Resort

For the rest of time, we just explored the resort or even just spent time at our room. We took a lot of pictures, obviously, swam in the water right front of our overwater deck, and snorkeled again at the lagoon in the resort. We spent a lot of time lying in the hut, lying beside the pool, and lying on the beach there…
